The Municipality of Igoumenitsa is the largest Municipality of the Prefecture of Thesprotia in terms of population – 25.780 residents – and covers an area of 426.6 km2 (165 sq mi). The present municipality was formed at the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the following 5 former municipalities, that became municipal units:
- Igoumenitsa
- Margariti
- Parapotamos
- Perdika
- Syvota
The city of Igoumenitsa is the center of the Municipality. It is a coastal picturesque small town (around 14.000 habitants) with lots of green, beaches with crystal clear blue waters, and green pine forest mountains that surrounding the town.
